YOU ARE MARRIED, TELL THE STORY BEHIND YOUR INTERNATIONAL LOVE STORY WITH YOUR WIFE.
“We met in South Beach, Miami during 2000, we were just friends for the week she was there for holiday. We stayed friends and sent each other emails back and forth. We kept emailing after one year. Meet again in Rome in 2007 while she was on holiday, she asked me to show her around the city. We spent one week together. She was only suppose to say in Rome for one week…she ended staying for one month. We fell in love. The problem was she was living in Mexico and I was living in Italy. For a year and three months we would travel to see each other. One month she would fly to me, the next month I would fly to her. We got married in Italy in 2009. After getting married, we decided to move Mexico and start our lives together.”
2. HOW DID YOU MANAGE BEING AN ENTIRE CONTINENT AWAY FROM EACH OTHER?
“We managed by seeing each other every other month. You will have problems so you need a lot of love, patience, and know that its going to be hard work.”
3. GIVE YOUR BEST PIECE OF ADVICE FOR COUPLES IN LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIPS
“You just a lot of love, amore, for a long distance relationship.”
4. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INTERESTED IN FASHION?
“I have always worked in fashion. The first job I had was being a hair dresser, I had a salon in Rome. Hair styling is a way of fashion. In Italy fashion was very important.”
5. WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU STARTED HUB92PPRINTS?
“I had the salon first, then created a jeans brand called Silver Brand in Mexico. The jeans company is still in running in Mexico, I travel there every two weeks or every month to do promotions and work on the newest collection.”
6. WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO START CREATING CUSTOM CLOTHING?
“Since fashion is all the same, I just like the idea of custom clothing. People want something different. You design your clothing. Especially in the United States, you will find that all clothing stores are very similar. People will do more custom clothing in the future. Bigger brands will begin to invest in custom clothing. Nike is already doing this with their shoes. Nike knows the importance of your uniqueness. No more robots. The future is custom clothing. We trust in this.”
7. WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE BEHIND “HUB92”?
“We imagine this clothing line as a hub where people meet, come together, and enjoy each others company. Hub92 is a place where new products are made. Like the center of the city. The heart of the city. The 92 is my son’s favorite number. We don’t know why, but it is.”
8. WHAT ARE THE MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CUSTOMERS IN MEXICO, ITALY, AND AMERICA?
“Italy: One of the most fashion forward places in the world. Everyone wants to look good. Everything is new, competitive, and fast paced.
Mexico: The people are not very fashion forward, everything comes six months later. The citizens tend to look at the American market and copy the US style.
America: There are big cities, a lot of fashion, but in other places (small places) everyone tends to dress the same. Miami, LA, New York are fashionable. Even Houston and Austin are starting to become increasingly fashionable.”
9. HOW WERE YOU ABLE TO START YOUR FIRST BUSINESS IN ITALY?
“I started my first business when I was 25 years old. I opened it with a lot of work. In Italy it was not easy to work in fashion, its very competitive, and they love little details. I opened my first business by being very focused.”
10. DO YOU FEEL LIKE ITS MORE FULFILLING TO BE AN ENTREPRENEUR OR BE AN EMPLOYEE AT A HIGH END FASHION COMPANY?
“No, I prefer to work for myself. I can’t work for another company because I don’t like people telling me what I need to do. I have been working for myself for so long.”
11. WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING ABOUT STARTING THEIR OWN BUSINESS?
“They need to trust in their ideas and follow their ideas. Make their business with passion and work hard because its not easy. If you work hard you never know when your break will be. One week or one year…it will come”
12. SINCE YOU TWO ARE MARRIED, HOW DO YOU BALANCE YOUR PERSONAL LIFE AND BEING CO-WORKERS?
“Its very hard because we are together 24 hours a day. We fight, but we need to fight, its better for the business. Sometimes we take for ourselves, like after work we try to do our separate passions. She loves CrossFit and I have the passion for soccer and running. We spend time with our son as well. But we are happy! Definitely a funny life!”
13. BEING NEW TO DESIGNING CLOTHES IN AMERICA, WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE TO OVERCOME?
“It was actually easier here then it is in Italy, this is the country of opportunities. Its so open. More spacious. More people. People are more trusting. They give you chances. The mentality is different in Italy, the people are harder. The people are not easy in trusting you. In Italy, you need to have more connections, you need more credit for them to believe in you. If you have a new idea its not easy to break into the business. In the United States you have the opportunity for the banks to give you more chances. Economically Italy is a little behind.”
14. IN TERMS OF ADDITIONS TO THE BRAND, WHAT ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT ADDING AT HUB92PRINTS?
“Hats, photo cases, sneakers, underwear (women and men), right now we are adding sport tank tops.”
15. WHERE DO YOU SEE HUB92PRINTS IN 5 YEARS?
